Equity in Action: The Power of Reader’s Choice and Identity

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

At the core of every reader is a sense of self-identity that encompasses the reader’s sociocultural background, language, values, perspectives, and developing knowledge of the world. Literacy as a civil right begins with defining yourself as a reader and choosing the books that will help you shape and expand your identity. Attendees will review district, school, and student case studies, relevant research, and begin to apply this learning to support current literacy initiatives. Short booktalks on current children’s literature will be provided along with book giveaways and opportunities for interaction amongst attendees.
Hear from the extraordinary Library Girl, Jennifer LaGarde, during this engaging session.
